Sonnet #14

by M. Douglas Hoss

I was one among them when they raised their
arms in a wanton, feverish hope; I
was one of them that dared to dream such a
beauteous madness of desire. I was one

of the ones who said "Me! Me! Me!" when
the only chance for pure love arose. I
was one of they who chose to let drown all
others for the shores where you were moored.

I was one of such men who knew no place,
where quiet, calm and contentment made their home.
I was one who sought the very truth of

you, and found much more than I ever dared
imagine. I was the one you drew with
empty fingers and barren eyes, for you.
