we the pawns

and if your stars did not align tonight
wish for the universe to make you bright
unapologetically like the sun or moon
till every bruise there is would heal very soon

and if this world is not ours to tread
‘cause we won’t survive alone with bread
pray, pray for the kings to use their crown
to convince us we need not forever frown

and may that blood, yours and mine, won’t spill
from our chests to our wrists against our will
for if we die who will have the heart to brave
each storm when we’re voiceless beyond the grave
