by Lonnie Hicks
I am beachy sand,
ground down mountain dust,
washed here by wet rain
to these edge-bound shores
where I can feel the footprints
of millions who
come to me
from their indoors
to enjoying my bounty
to make love,
reconcile,
talk
depart
or renew love.
I am beachy sand-
my granules
are a million years old-
and I rest just below
your sandaled feet
mute and warm
blanketed by summer heat.
I am summer's warmth
which reassures you
that nature
you and I
still can meet.
Lie down here
in my bosom;
feel the sun's heat
and
it's light
because
we are both
Children of the Stars.
