by Edmund Baffour Awuah
I’m out of guts
Shrivelled to the core
A look at my face and you see I’m blank
Sailing in my thoughts
Only in the solace of the shore
Not yet rode a tide
But in mind already I’ve sank
Cowardice senseless
Wrecking my life at my own peril
Now I’m invisible
Existing but can barely be seen
Not riches or fame
To send in my way even a glance
In a moving world
But feeling ensnared in some trance
I’m just naked
Everybody can see right through me
It’s been shouted from up above
But I never had the ear to hear
That you’ve given me love
And not the spirit of fear
Now I’ll reach out to all the things I must have
But as you’ve promised to always be near
Be thou my hope
And my light
But most of all
Be thou my friend
