by Edmund Baffour Awuah
I’m all alone
The world is quite, everybody’s just watching
I’m panting for air
Suffocation in my pursuits
Everything seems gloomy
My life lay somewhere in the murky dusk
You wish I rot but my redeemer lives
He who sees the hands of fondest tacts
And blesses the heart of honest acts
Will water my efforts and help me shoot
Scavenging pests, friends in good times
You’ll watch, only watch with drooling mouths
I’ve learnt better, made my bark bitter
Unscrupulous weeds in haste
You’ll come, come to feed
Soon, very soon the grounds will be fertile
You’ll come, come to breed
I’m built to last, too strong to be choked
Just for a while, just a little while and you’ll wither
My roots are firmly grounded
Fighting my way through the turmoil
Racing amidst the hyenas
My heart is beating heavily
Stretching its wall to puncture
But I’ll grow, survive through the odds
And I’ll spread out wide my branches
Bear fruits in bunches
Bring together my branches
Made shade for man to rest
And have the willful heart in his rest
To walk and live again
