I had not thought to be afraid
the fragments of the day seemed normal
not to be avoided so I walked on
a sudden burst wing or footfall
changed what I felt by feather or hoof
anxious at first giving way to terror
suddenly gone as if only a passing cloud
that the sun relinquished
soon after and I passed on
