About Marie Tello Phillips
Marie Tello Phillips was an American poet, novelist, songwriter, reviewer, and essayist who lived mainly in Pittsburgh until her death in 1962. She began her literary career in 1918 by submitting a war poem to a local daily in Cleveland. In 1921 she moved to Pittsburgh, where she continued to publish poems in local periodicals. During her lifetime, she published seven books of verse, three novels, and a book of essays. Her work was included in a number of anthologies, including the Davis Anthology and American Women Poets in 1937. She was a contributor to magazines such as Poetry Review, Poetry Today, and Contemporary Vision.
