About George Bruce
George Bruce (10 March 1909 – 25 July 2002) was a Scottish poet and former BBC producer and radio journalist. He published his first volume, Sea Talk, in 1944 and Pursuit in 1999 which won the Saltire Society award (1999) for Scottish Book of the Year. His last volume of poetry was The Singing of the Foxes published in 2007. Other volumes of poetry were Landscapes And Figures (1967), Collected Poems (1970) and Perspectives (1967). In 1984 he was awarded OBE (Most Excellent Order of the British Empire). Among other books in prose, Bruce wrote a history of the Saltire Society, To Foster And Enrich. Since 1936 the society has encouraged the cultural and intellectual life of Scotland. George Bruce played an important part in its activities, particularly in its publications and in its contributions to the Edinburgh Festival and Fringe.Browse all poems and texts published on George Bruce
