About Felicia Hemans
Felicia Dorothea Browne Hemans was a poetess born September 25, 1793 in Liverpool and died May 16, 1835. She published her first collection of poems in 1808. She contributed to the feminization of culture in the 19th century, and to the foundations of feminism. She was one of the most widely read poets of her time in the English-speaking world.Today, her best-known poems are The Homes of England and Casabianca (also known as The Boy Stood on the Burning Deck) which evokes the death of the son of the commander of the ship Orient during the battle of Aboukir.
