stay pure, survivor
stay pure, o friend of mine i am leaving behind on this
messed up stage
sensitive souls have it hard
in this world that
keeps ignoring them
find no time for grudge
anger
or fear
be too busy for
regret
resentment
or revenge
stay pure, survivor
relinquish all that stains your
truest self
preserve your only life
immaculate
drink hard
at times
(of course)
smoke well and make
love to her
or him, or both
always as if that
were your last night together
be smart and
streetwise
but never snatch a smile
from an innocent mouth
never conceal a toy from your children
or refuse
a resting arm to an elder
stay pure, survivor
pure as the morning breath of a child
pure as a sunlit lake appears
from the top of a mountain
as i watch this drunken journey of mine
setting slow beneath the
embering sun
i am whispering this to far suspended clouds:
“there is no second chance
no replay
all we’ve got is
one life
one take
one time”
so stay pure, survivor.
stay
pure.
