Three Pairs of Eyes

by Drora Matlofsky

Three pairs of eyes follow me all day.
The blue eyes say, Mummy, I love you.
The green eyes say, Mummy, who are you?
The brown eyes say, Look, I climbed on the table.
And the brown eyes laugh, laugh and laugh.

The blue eyes say, Mummy, I need you.
The green eyes say, I just saw an angel.
The brown eyes say, Let's see what's in this cupboard.
And the brown eyes laugh, laugh and laugh.

The blue eyes say, I didn't mean to do that, I am a good boy.
The green eyes say, When is the Messiah coming?
The brown eyes say, I am drawing a lovely picture on the wall.
And the brown eyes laugh, laugh and laugh.

The blue eyes say, I don't want to go to bed.
The green eyes say, What is this shadow on the wall?
The brown eyes say, Let's see if I can climb out of bed.
And the brown eyes laugh, laugh and laugh.

Go to sleep, children, I say.
And Benny closes his blue eyes.
And Eky closes her green eyes.
But I know that in the dark,
Pitsush's brown eyes just look at me and laugh, laugh and laugh.
