Kingfisher Song

A yellow-breasted bird
heraldic on his rock
devised himself to give back
due light to an afternoon.
Who from his posing took
strength, as from the sun.
I gave all my strength to a woman.
She returned it each day
miraculously; who could play
a right music for my ear
in deep of her body would cry
that my inmost bone hear.
When winter rode down wind
she walked rains out and threw
gay mischiefs on some low
pitched sobersided stream,
on that kingfisher who
shrugged in his harmless dream.
