Absence

by Drora Matlofsky

I hold out my hand and embrace air.
No one is there.
I call out and the only reply
Is the echo of my cry.
I close my eyes and see you.
I open them and you are no more.

But I know you are here,
Behind my eyelids.
I close my eyes
And remember.
