by Oliver Herford
THE Tapir is a Pachyderm,
To use a Scientific Term.
But if you meet him, don't allude
To such a word; not that it's Rude,
But, living in a Foreign Land,
The Tapir would not understand,
Having no Latin, and Less Greek,
And might an awful vengeance wreak,
Not dreaming "Pachyderm" implied
His own Invulnerable Hide.
Oh, when will Scientists see fit
To moderate their Terms a bit!
