by Robert Laurence Binyon
Through Ebblesborne and Broad--Chalke
The narrow river runs,
Dimples with dark November rains,
Flashes in April suns.
But give me days of rosy June
And on warm grass to lie
And watch, bright over long green weed,
Quick water wimple by.
Blue swallows, arrowing up and down,
Cool trout that glide and dart,
Lend me their happy bodies
For the fancies of my heart.
But you, clear stream, that murmur
One music all day long,
I wish my idle fancy
Sang half so sweet a song.
