I Could Try To Pretend

I know I can’t blame you for the fact
that, because you left, being sad
became my second nature

I could try to feign to be content
or even glad, to talk and act
as if I could not care less;

to pretend I am an ordinary friend
and to politely chat with the man,
now proudly holding your hand :

I could try to do all that if the rage,
still felt inside, was less intense,
not blocking all roads to reason
