by Diane Fahey
the dolphin who bore Arion home
was loath to part from him,
so went to court with him.
Luxury and honeyed attentions
were not good for him, of course:
he died soon after.
Arion devised a fitting funeral—
a boat of flowers adrift
inside a burnished sun,
both slowly sinking…
Petals on gold-flecked waves.
A vast green silence.
The ocean's chastity.
