I'm valuable because
I understand the will of the gods.
I'm valuable because
where I journey, whom I carry,
become part of what I am.
I can know you in a way
you cannot know yourself.
Sit on my back and I'll plant you
four-square on earth. Ride on my back:
you will speed through inner space,
reach places long hungered for.
You won't mistake me: I eat
pure gold hay, gaze from gold-brown eyes…
Enter the courtyard now: I'm here,
solid in the sunlight, wearing
a gleam no groom could enhance.
While you are with me, you won't
doubt your strength or lose direction.
So put the wooden, not the golden
bridle on my back — and we'll fly!
