Journey of the Fool
When I was young I thought that I was wise
before too long, life cut me down to size.
I grew up and tried hard to be wealthy
that soon stopped me being sane and healthy.
Now I’m just a fool who treasures
the wealth of beauty in the world,
is made glad by simple pleasures
like Summer sun; Autumn colours; those unfurled
buds and scented blossoms of Spring;
like peacocks dancing the monsoon
like rainbows ringing the full moon
like birdsong and curves of seagulls on the wing.
And to an old fool like me it is clear
that money can often be far too dear;
and though wisdom has value for the wise
for fools it is just folly in disguise.
